Palo Alto, CA – The Ives Quartet is pleased to announce its 2007- 08 Home Concert Season. The Fall Series, “Viva Italia,” presents an evening of music from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. This is a celebration of the Quartet’s first summer together teaching, rehearsing and performing in Italy! The Winter Series will include Leo Ornstein’s, Quartet No. 2. A pre-concert talk by Severo Ornstein, son of the late Leo Ornstein, will precede performances as part of our new “Preludes and Premieres” program. Featuring guest speakers and the quartet members in pre-concert talks, this addition to our programming is designed to offer insight into the music being presented and to allow the audience to discover more about composers, music and musicians. Highlights of the Spring season include a collaboration with the Ives’ friend and colleague, cellist Bonnie Hampton in Schubert’s beloved Quintet and the presentation of Quincy Porter’s Quartet No. 2, following the Ives Quartet release of Porter’s first four string quartet’s on the Naxos label later this summer.

Praised for their “arresting sound — robust, rigorous and beautifully blended,” the Ives Quartet presents powerful live-music experiences that balance established classics audiences love and enjoy with stimulating lesser known works and commissioned projects that introduce listeners to exciting new music. Balancing the desire to preserve with the effort to grow and explore, the Quartet has created the 2007-08 season programs that thematically blend classics with lesser-known works of the early twentieth century.

In a departure from convention, the Quartet combines players with American and European experience and sensibilities, drawing on the talent and experience of the international, solo, orchestral, chamber, and recording careers of its artist members – Bettina Mussumeli, violin; Susan Freier, violin; Jodi Levitz, viola; and Stephen Harrison, cello.
