Palo Alto, CA – The Ives Quartet is pleased to announce its 2005-2006 Home Concert Season. The Fall Series will feature a collaboration with soprano and San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow, Elza van den Heever, in Arnold Schoenberg’s String Quartet No. 2, Op. 10. The Winter Series will include a special performance of Leo Ornstein’s Piano Quintet with Boston-based pianist, Janice Weber. A pre-concert talk by Severo Ornstein, son of the late Leo Ornstein, will precede select performances. Another highlight of the season will be during the Spring Series with the World Premiere of Roger Bourland’s String Quartet No. 1: Four Poets; its four movements named after poets Ezra Pound, James Merrill, Friedrich Schiller, and William Carlos Williams. Bourland is chair of the composition department at UCLA’s Department of Music.

The Ives Quartet combines the talent and experience of the international, solo, orchestral, chamber music, and recording careers of its members – Robin Sharp, violin; Susan Freier, violin; Scott Woolweaver, viola; and Stephen Harrison, cello. Each player is an acclaimed performer on his/her instrument, earning distinction with other renowned chamber music ensembles including the Stanford Quartet, the Chester Quartet, the Boston Composers’ String Quartet, the New England Piano Quartette, the San Francisco Symphony, and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.

Each year, the Ives Quartet presents a fall, winter, and spring concert series in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Jose. The Ives Quartet has been quartet-in-residence at the Rocky Ridge Music Festival in Colorado, and appears on noted chamber music series and festivals nationwide. As a non-profit organization committed to educational outreach, the Ives Quartet presents numerous lecture-demonstrations throughout the Bay Area as well as an annual master-class for string students in the Palo Alto public school district.

Committed to presenting the full scope of the string quartet literature, the Ives Quartet continues to earn critical and popular acclaim for depth and diversity of its programming, with repertoire ranging from recognized classics and neglected masterpieces, to new commissions and distinctive collaborations with guest artists. Their recordings, which appear on the Laurel Record, Music and Arts, and AIX Entertainment labels, feature rarely performed contemporary and commissioned works.
